Jason and I serve together on the Board of Directors for Minnesota Women in Film & Television, and I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with him on several initiatives for the organization, from content creation and event planning to website development and social media strategy. He approaches every project with focus, creativity, and an incredible attitude.

I'm constantly grateful to have Jason on my team! I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jason, and I can confidently say he’s one of the most driven and attentive people I’ve collaborated with. He’s dedicated to supporting a project from start to finish, ensuring every detail is handled with care. Jason is a great listener who makes you feel heard, and he brings a thoughtful, creative perspective to every conversation.

Jason is an incredibly creative and talented director, and a great person to work with. He has directed, shot, and edited multiple music videos for me, and I always appreciate his unique vision. He has also brought me on as a music composer for several of his and others’ films, and I owe much of my career in the film industry to him being a wonderful connector among our Minnesota film community.

MUSICIAN

I’ve worked with Jason since 2016, on five different music videos through the years, all wildly different approaches and unique outcomes, from shooting on vintage camcorders under the Hennepin bridge, to choreographed dancing in a professional studio, to renting out a real life underground speakeasy with 1930s decor. 

I think what makes working with Jason special is he is incredibly imaginative yet also practical in his ability to see a vision through to the end. He has always been flexible in meeting me where I was at, whether I had an idea going into something or had no idea at all. 

We have also filmed knee-deep in a river with dreamy prisms, developed fully animated films, filmed against infinity walls with neons lights where superimposed handmade graphic are integrated seamlessly—all created by Jason or arranged through his extensive resources in the minneapolis film and arts community. Every project is exciting and becomes a world within itself. 

He is also understanding of working within an independent artist’s budget. Somehow we were always able to pull off elaborate ideas even with my limited budget.

He's also been an invaluable sounding board and mentor to me as a first-time director and filmmaker.

Jason is the best! His passion for filmmaking is at the root of everything he does. He's generous with his time, energy, and creativity, whether it’s chatting through a new idea, problem-solving on set, or putting finishing touches on an edit. Above all, he cares (like, actually). Even in stressful moments - which filmmaking has no shortage of - Jason is kind, patient, and steadfast in his commitment to the work.

Jason is ALWAYS interested in hear about other people’s creative lives and typically follows up that inquiry with, “let me know how I can support you or help”, which isn’t exactly a common gesture in the creative field.

Jason has been the writer, director, the DP and the editor on various projects we've done together, whether I'm working as talent for him, or he's been hired by me to create something for one of my businesses.

Jason has a very beautiful eye for composition and an affinity for the important beats of a story. He is quite skilled at capturing the heart behind a story or a brand and finding the visual and emotional moments needed to bring the viewer in to the heart of the experience. He's always going above and beyond to create original work with individual details like customized music, and he has an incredible skill for creating a wide variety of moods from heartfelt and moving to off-beat and quirky. I trust him implicitly to do the work needed until each story is told uniquely and just right.

Jason is a passionate, instrumental, and necessary part to the creative process. He elevates everything that he works on, whether it’s through direct collaboration or even serving as a sounding board for whatever I’ve got going on. He’s been a great champion of my screenplays for MITCH & DINO MOVE ON and HYENAS. He created an online film festival during the pandemic that helped me birth ONCE UPON A TIME AT BREAKFAST. He is also a tremendous resource in finding collaborators, and a great wingman at film industry networking events.

Jason is the rare filmmaker who knows his craft, has a strong and clear vision, and is still kind and fair to everyone he works with. He’s a cinephile with a broad taste, but never makes you feel like a dummy if you haven’t seen something. He’s a gentle cheerleader (and a healthy pragmatist) who loves his collaborators as much as he loves the cinema he creates.

DIRECTOR / EDITOR

Jason is a thoughtful, friendly, and hard-working film artist. His presence on your set will enhance your social environs and elevate the mood about the work itself, and the potential it has to be an amazing finished product. That said, in my mind, Jason's most primary gift is in his ability to craft stunning and innovative visuals. He has a vast knowledge of films in all genres from blockbuster to indie, foreign to experimental, old and new. It gives him an incredible rolodex of inspirations to draw from, able to imagine the strongest visual possible for a project. He also has the knowhow and connections to execute that vision at a high level, even on a smaller budget.

However, I don't mean to say he just picks a cool style for the sake of it; Jason's visual choices are motivated by the story first. Every choice he makes will be in service of strengthening the story and telling it to the best of his resources and abilities.

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Jason isn’t just a filmmaker. He’s the guy who bleeds story into everything he touches. He can pull a line of dialogue out of thin air and it feels like gospel. He can pull a busted lamp out of Ax-Man and suddenly it’s the only thing that could ever belong in the scene. Writer, director, producer, builder — it’s all one language for him. He doesn’t separate the art from the work or the vision from the grind.

He’s an artist in the truest, messiest, most necessary sense of the word.

Because Jason is a filmmaker in the truest sense. He doesn’t silo himself as a writer or a producer or a director. He’s all of it, fused together, an artist who can move between craft and vision without losing either.

Some days I’ll hire him as an editor, other days as a cinematographer, or an art director. Whatever the role, he brings the same instinct to elevate the project. Most collaborators show up to do a job. Jason shows up to make the work matter. That’s rare, and that’s why I’d bring him onto any project that deserves more than just competence.
